Interesting that I was charged a fee.

To be honest Brett, I do not remember if they charged us a fee or not. Nothing pops to mind that they did seeing that it was the "same" bank. Even if they did at the time, it sure was convenient.

I always do a bank-to-bank TT - conversion from GBP to peso done here (Phils) rather than there.  The rate seems close enough to the online rate to not make me feel I'm being screwed much.  I don't actually know what my bank here (BPI) charges as I just see the total amount in pesos hitting my account, but it cannot be much.  My UK bank charges £35 - hefty but as it's just once a year I can let it go.  Hits my account in 1-2 days from what I can gather.

I use Wells Fargo Bank.  For remittances to yourself or family members, they charge $5 for $3,000.  For larger sums up to $25,000, the service fee is $35.  The main requirement needed for the larger sums is the SWIFT code (series of capital letters) of the receiving bank.
