Hello  to ALL,

I'm living since 1 year in General Santos and planted Tomatoes from Germany.... no fruits.  Maybe no bees here. The Philipinos tomatoes are good growing and the have all fruits.

I'm planing to go to Boracy because the weather here is too hot for me (76) and for the plants.

have a nice day

Horst

I've found you need to use local seeds or varieties from Singapore. The climate is too hot to grow the larger EU or US tomatoes. I planted cucumbers with local seeds and got good production with hydroponics. I brought some seeds from another country which produce smaller cucumbers with the hope of making pickles but got very few female flowers but lots of male flowers. A horticulture expert said it was due to the heat that my cucumber plants were mostly gay.

There are many local bee places creating honey so one would think there are bees about, but maybe not in your area

The main flower pollinator in the Philippines is the fly.  We tried using stingless bees, but found flies just as efficient pollinating 1,200 mango trees my father planted.

A high school classmate is one of the largest growers of commercial tomatoes and peppers for restaurants.  His uses American and European seeds, and greenhouses manufactured in Israel.  The technology is also from Israel.  The location is Tagaytay at a higher, cooler elevation.  Their harvest rate is 500 kilos per day per greenhouse.

Welcome Horst.  As others have mentioned, best to use local seeds even those the vegetables or fruits will be different sizes/appearance than what you are used to.  The temperature in Boracay may also be too warm for you, perhaps you might consider an area at a higher elevation.

There is the possibility that you may not enjoy the local tomato.  They are a bit sour and meant to be consumed as a condiment with salt, onions, vinegar or soy sauce.  A Taiwan company developed for the tropic's hybrid tomato comparable to the sweeter European version, meant to be eaten by itself or part of a salad.  Ask at a seed store.

Welcome Horst. If you need any advice on Boracay ask away as I've lived here for a few years.
