My wife and I looked at my nephew's report card and his grades are not stellar, lowest is math which is in the 70s.  Our neighbor is a gifted math teacher.  We ask her is she could tutor our nephew and she said yes.  That seed of an idea kind of germinated in my mind and expanded a bit.  Our nephew will still be tutored but . . . .

Our new plan is to have an overnight 'Growth in Education' mini-camp for youth grade 7-12.   I estimate we will have 15-20 youth.  Instruction will be Math, Science, and Reading Comprehension (in English).  The youth will be broken into three groups by grade, with each group being rotated thorough the classes.  As mentioned above our neighbor will teach math.  My wife, Master's in Teaching English, will teach reading comprehension, I will teach science unless we find a science teacher.  We will have a pastor who will lead a hour or so of praise and worship in the evening.  We plan on having the meals catered so instructors can concentrate on teaching instead of cooking.   If successful we will try to do this multiple times during the year.  Only a small step, but every journey starts with a step.

It is difficult to even wrap ones brain around those two statistics.   And why shouldnt one of the requirements be having an education/teaching background?   Seems pretty logical to me.

It's been years since I saw a sample copy of the exam for principals at the Philippine Normal University.  This was when the Department of Education was interested in high school math books published by the Curriculum Research and Development Group, College of Education, University of Hawaii.  (Both our sons attended the UH Laboratory School where the CRDG books are tested.)  I recall the questions had very little to do with school administration.  Possibly, they are still using a similar exam.  Let's just say the exam or test was developed during the 70's.
