Forum Support Popular Post Tommy T. Posted Wednesday at 11:42 PM Forum Support Popular Post Posted Wednesday at 11:42 PM (edited) I know we have had a number of posts regarding noise and loud music in the PI, but maybe I have some new input that is relevant? Recently I have been very irritated because of an ongoing house construction (an ugly house that looks like a clinic and for more than 2 years) on one side of our property and a light manufacturing operation that started a month ago on the other side. They seemed to be taking turns to see who could make the most noise. Well, yesterday, I had enough and visited the house construction site. I spoke with the owner (who is powerless) and, I think, the foreman about them blasting super loud radio or old US 60's music. Some of it was rap and some heavy metal. I mentioned my complaint politely and asked for consideration and respect. I asked him as a personal favour to please keep the volume down. Ooooh the respect word was the key. I said I am an old man and can you respect me? He said yes. Since then, they have played their music(?) but much quieter. The owner and foreman asked sorry. Then, I noticed later in the day the owner or manager of the machine works. They have not been so loud with music, but have been running table saw and grinder until 10pm many nights. I saw this woman leaving the site and essentially said the same things to her. I asked her as a personal favour to try to limit the hours of their work and to also keep any music quiet. I also asked her for respect to this old fart. So, last night was quiet after about 8pm and no music at all. The woman also asked sorry. Concluding, I am not sure I really solved anything. L has always told me that asking someone to keep quiet is considered rude in this culture. So I went against her advice, when she was not around and, hopefully this will bear fruit? So far, so good. I will add that in both cases, I told the people that I respected their working and activities. Edited Thursday at 12:22 AM by Tommy T.

Well, then, maybe I will squawk again?

I asked our neighbours to tone down the 7 day a week 6am karaoke sessions in a polite and respectful way. I'm normally up with the dogs at 5-530 but it was loud enough we couldn't hear the morning news. The peace lasted just over a week. Repeated the process, another week of peace. We're now on about week 15 and sometimes it lasts for a month, other times 3 days. They see me coming and they know what it's about now at least. 1
Lee Posted Thursday at 10:03 AM Posted Thursday at 10:03 AM Our across the street neighbors have at least 2 sons that often spend the early evenings exploding gas cannons. You have seen the cannons I'm sure. They are normally used to scare away birds in rice fields. They are built with taped together sardine cans, then pour a bit of lighter fluid/kerosene down the barrel, swirl the tube around a few times, and then ignite the the mess with a spark mechanism removed from a cigarette lighter. Sound like a loud gun going off. They can do this for hours on end. Wife has talked to their mother repeatedly to no avail. What can you do? Sure would hate it if the contraption were to go off in their hands once. 1

They could shoot a tennis ball a long way.
Guy F. Posted Thursday at 10:24 PM Posted Thursday at 10:24 PM (edited) Has anyone tried blasting the neighbors with your own noise at much higher volume to teach them a lesson? Set the volume on "pain threshold" and stay at a resort for a night. It wouldn't work against a machine shop but assaulting them with classical music or something else distasteful to them would prevent them from enjoying their own noise and might give them pause for thought. I suggest Tchaikovsky's 1812 Overture (with cannons). The above situation was featured in Ang Li's classic film, "Eat, Drink, Man, Woman." The daughter in the story used gigantic loudspeakers facing directly from her window to the neighbors.

I'm a heavy metal/industrial/goth metal fan, I've tried.. Water off a ducks back to the point some of them want to know who the bands are. 2
