OnMyWay Posted Friday at 11:30 PM Posted Friday at 11:30 PM Just FYI. I know some of you, like me, use Chase bank for your U.S. banking. I have checking and savings, and my SS is deposited there. I have been using them for 20+ years with the last 12 in PH. I have always kept a U.S. address on the account. I have never had any issues due to my living overseas. I rarely get a check given to me but I did a few weeks back. I have used Chase remote check deposit with the Chase app a few years ago without issue. This time, they added a new wrinkle. After a 2FA, it said "just one more step. Please upload a state ID or driver's license". I don't have either so I could not complete the deposit. So I was able to deposit it to SDFCU without issue. Seems like I might need to start thinking about moving my SS deposit to SDFCU.

Registered mail is 'fairly' quick and I think not overly expensive.

I'm very happy with sdfcu and the only reason I'm keeping Chase is because I think it is a good idea not to have all my eggs in one basket. The reason for getting a check was irritating. My Capital One credit card sent it because I had a positive balance for too long. I guess they don't like that and automatically cut a check. That would have been an AMAZON green light for me

You mean spend it on Amazon? Actually it coincided with me switching all my credit card purchases over to my SDFCU cashback card. I set all my online purchases to the new SDFCU card. Then I got a travel credit on the Cap One card. I thought I could use it anytime and was in no hurry. I got the credit in June and all of a sudden, without notice, they mailed the check in September. It appears as a "charge" on my Cap One card so was very confusing.
MikeyD Posted yesterday at 08:41 AM Posted yesterday at 08:41 AM My situation seems a little different but so far since moving to the Philippines last year I have received 2 checks via US mail to my US mailing service address. My US mailing service has a feature that allows me to have them physically forward the check to my bank in the US (with instructions) to have it deposited.

Come to think of it, it wouldnt even take having credit

They close accounts way too easily. Edited yesterday at 11:45 AM by baronapart

I use my capital one credit card for most of my shopping here. Easier and better rates (at least the last time I checked) than xfering it via wise. It minimizes the amount of cash I need to xfer. Works at s&r, landers, and south, where I do most shopping.

I have used my Cap One Travel Rewards card for the same for years, but switched to the SDFCU cashback card because the 2% cashback is on every purchase, and works out better than the Cap One Travel Rewards. I have over $500 cashback waiting to be used, because we have been renovating and I charged a lot on it. New furniture too.
