I have used my Cap One Travel Rewards card for the same for years, but switched to the SDFCU cashback card because the 2% cashback is on every purchase, and works out better than the Cap One Travel Rewards.  I have over $500 cashback waiting to be used, because we have been renovating and I charged a lot on it.  New furniture too.

How is their fx rate?

The best.  That is why I use cards as much as possible, and now the primary is SDFCU.  Gas and groceries, etc.  The Cap One is Mastercard, and SDFCU is Visa.  Both give me around the same rate as the XE rate, which is the mid-market rate.

I just looked at Mastercard and they are higher than XE right now.  58.90.

I do the same and always tell them to charge in pesos.

I get 1.5% cash back on my CapOne visa. 2% is much better. I will have to look into SDFCU.

I get 1.5% on my quicksilver. As a Canuck I'm not eligible for  the sdfcu card. I did notice a few days ago that cap one also has a Canadian card that also has no foreign transaction fees with a 1% cashback. I'll need to get one next time I'm back. No foreign transaction fee cards (with no yearly fee) are very rare in Canada. Capitalone.ca.

Are you referring to the practice of the credit card reader asking if you want the transaction done in pesos or dollar?  This is especially true if the processing bank is BDO.  The correct answer, I have been told, is pesos.  The bank has to use the Central Bank rate.  If it is in dollars, they can choose whatever rate is favorable to their bank.

My wife got her US passport last month. I had to fill out two paper checks. It took me a couple of moments to remember how to fill them out properly. It has been years since I wrote one out.
