Guy F. Posted Monday at 09:37 PM Posted Monday at 09:37 PM When I was in back in the 70s all personnel were given life insurance worth $10,000, which was about the price of an above-average new car at that time. Anyone know about gov't life insurance for active duty people now?

The servicemember can choose the amount of coverage. In increments of 50k, up to 400,000. The price is 7 cents per 1000 dollars.

Seems most police approaching full retirement will suffer some type of "injury" in the last six months or so prior to retirement. I have met a number of retired police and every one was collecting some type disability pay. A good friend of mine was a retired state patrol. I ask him if he knew of any police who had retired without disability. He just gave a sort of smile and did not answer.

Then there are all the slackers who don't want to work who hire those law firms to work the US social security disability system to receive benefits. Think fondly of them when SS runs out and your SS retirement is reduced. The SS fund has been terribly abused to rob us of what we payed in. 1

I'm not going to suggest that this situation is SS abuse (or anything else) but I find it curious that if a SS pensioner has children under the age of 18, then the CHILDREN can draw SS monies until they become of age. Regarding SSD, I am referring to the fraudulent claims. Replying to how easy it has been for able bodied individuals to claim additional disability payments from police or fire pensions or the military. In the end the tax payers are the ones on the hook for those claims that abuse the system.

I paid in way more than enough to cover my child's SS payment. The SSA would be in good shape simply by raising the maximum income subject to with holdings to $400,000 or more and making all income not just wages subject to some withholding up to the same limit. But this is wandering a bit off topic
