Jollygoodfellow Posted February 5, 2010 Posted February 5, 2010 What next Man accused of posing as U.S. marshalHEMET, Calif., Feb. 3 (UPI) -- A California man is accused of allegedly posing as a U.S. marshal in order to kidnap and deport a relative's wife to the Philippines. Police in Hemet, Calif., said Greg Raymond Denny Jr. was arrested in January after he allegedly went to the home of Cherriebelle Hibbard posing as a U.S. marshal and handcuffed the woman at gunpoint, The Riverside (Calif.) Press-Enterprise said Tuesday. The Transportation Security Administration said it is investigating allegations that Denny then took Hibbard to San Diego International Airport, using a fake badge to bypass security, and placed the woman on an airplane to her native Philippines. "The Transportation Security Administration is aware of and reviewing an incident where an individual allegedly presented falsified law enforcement credentials at San Diego's Lindbergh Field," the federal agency said in a statement. Denny, 37, is a distant cousin of Hibbard's husband, Craig Hibbard. The newspaper said Denny told authorities that he was contacted by Craig Hibbard's father, who said Cherriebelle Hibbard was in the country illegally. Craig Hibbard said his wife was in the process of trying to renew her green card when Denny arrived at their home claiming to be a federal marshal. Aside from impersonating a Federal Marshall, what he did is considered kidnapping. Kidnapping often brings a longer sentence than murder does. If he gets less than 10-15 years in jail, I'll be shocked.I think people at San Diego Airport have some explaining to do as well. The guy bluffed his way through 3 security checkpoints and nobody looked at his credentials closely enough to realize they were fake.I read a longer version of the story that says Cherriebelle renounced her green card after some marital problems with her husband. Once they patched things up, she tried to get it reinstated. That story said US immigration officials said she was in the country legally.
