Mr Lee Posted April 11, 2010 Posted April 11, 2010 26 years hiding in the Philippines, I guess that shows us a reason for the new I-cards and I would guess that a time will come in the not too distant future when we will be asked to present it upon demand. MattFromGA Posted April 11, 2010 Posted April 11, 2010 Interesting story that leaves many more questions for me, such as:1. What was he up to all this time here in the Philippines?2. Was he molesting children here as well?3. Did he have a wife and new children here in the Philippines and was he supporting them in some way? If so, what would happen to them now?4. How did he survive here for so long, as in, what did he do to generate income?5. How did the BI find him after being off the radar for so long? TheMason Posted April 11, 2010 Posted April 11, 2010 (edited) 26 years hiding in the Philippines, I guess that shows us a reason for the new I-cards and I would guess that a time will come in the not too distant future when we will be asked to present it upon demand. For permanent resident visa holders (13a) you already have to show your ACR card on demand. In fine print on the back that is so small its unreadable to me, it says you must present your ACR card to any govt. official that asks to see it. Failure to do so can result in penalties ranging from an administrative fine of 500 pesos all the way up to 6 months in jail or deportation. The office in Intramuros has larger printouts of the exact text. That is how I found out it was a requirement. Nobody ever mentioned that to me when I was applying for my visa.EDIT: I just read the story on the guy they found....the early 80s in Riverside, CA. Isn't that near where the McMartin child molestation scandal broke out? As I recall, the DA in that area was found to have been overzealous in prosecuting child molestors and prosecuted many people on trumped up charges. Maybe this guy is another innocent victim of some moralizing prosecutor persecuting innocent people to 'save the children' and bolster their personal ambitions. You can read all about the travesty of justice visited upon the McMartin's at http://www.trutv.com..._daycare/1.html Edited April 11, 2010 by Mr. Lee combine posts

TheMason Posted April 11, 2010 Posted April 11, 2010 I answered some of that for us all on the page I linked. He was Filipino born and a US citizen by naturalization. If he had won an award instead of being arrested, the headline would have read 'Filipino Feted for his Awesomeness' instead of 'American Fugitive to be Deported'. I never tire of the subtle jabs the press here takes at the foreigners.
