siamesecat64 Posted June 8, 2010 Posted June 8, 2010 Hello Everyone!this is my second question:Because I have NOT experience at all about the Philippines, I am collecting informations from the web, but I would like to ask you resident for first hand suggestions, so:I selected the follow accomodations for my first visit (3 weeks) that would be hopefully in July, in order of preference1) Aysha-Lily Guest House ==>> Penthouse room or Air conditioned Double room2) Crowne Garden Hotel ==>> Ambassador suite3) Midtown Hotel ==>>Deluxe room4) Holiday Plaza Hotel ==>> Business Class Room5) Richmond Plaza Hotel ==>> Executive suiteLater on, while will time for relocation (probably November), I think for the first year should be useful living in town and I selected the follow condominuim:Windland Towers, 155 sq. m. 3 bedrooms, 3 bathrooms, kitchen, dining, living & receiving area @ 17,5000 PHPI think the condominium rate is a bit expensive (could be negotiable to 15,000 PHP?) Anyway, any suggestion / advice will be well received.Thank You,siamesecat64
Mr Lee Posted June 8, 2010 Posted June 8, 2010 Hello Everyone!this is my second question:Because I have NOT experience at all about the Philippines, I am collecting informations from the web, but I would like to ask you resident for first hand suggestions, so:I selected the follow accomodations for my first visit (3 weeks) that would be hopefully in July, in order of preference1) Aysha-Lily Guest House ==>> Penthouse room or Air conditioned Double room2) Crowne Garden Hotel ==>> Ambassador suite3) Midtown Hotel ==>>Deluxe room4) Holiday Plaza Hotel ==>> Business Class Room5) Richmond Plaza Hotel ==>> Executive suiteLater on, while will time for relocation (probably November), I think for the first year should be useful living in town and I selected the follow condominuim:Windland Towers, 155 sq. m. 3 bedrooms, 3 bathrooms, kitchen, dining, living & receiving area @ 17,5000 PHPI think the condominium rate is a bit expensive (could be negotiable to 15,000 PHP?) Anyway, any suggestion / advice will be well received.Thank You,siamesecat64 If you are looking for a five star hotel then the only one that I know of would be Marco Polo but it is really not conveniently located in my opinion since it is up on the hill and not walking distance to anything. If you like Winland Towers, that is where we live when we are there, but it is far from five star and I might rate the newer building we live in as one of two stars, then you might wish to have a look at Maxwell Hotel, I made a post HERE about it and we have had quite a few friends stay there and most have reported back that they liked it and it is right around the corner from Winland Towers and you can actually see Winland from the front of the hotel and since you think you might like to end up at Winland then why not get used to the area. It is also a very short ride to the malls from Maxwell and Winland and walking distance if you like to walk like I do but IMO wait until you know your way around. As a new person to Cebu, I would stay away from Midtown or any hotel on or near Osmena Circle since that is near Robinsons Mall and that is where all the street vendors and beggars seem to hang out and harass people and a new person might get a little intimidated by some of that, whereas once you have your Cebu legs so to speak and know your way around then IMO you would then better know how to deal with that part of life in Cebu. Now as for real rates in Winland, you can call or text my friend Angelo and he would be able to give you true rental rates and what is available in Winland because a lot of what you find on the Internet is inflated and directed at foreigners, but I can also tell you now that a furnished studio will rent for in the area of p15,000 or more and while the figure you quoted seemed high to me for a 3 bedroom, I do know that one bedrooms and two bedrooms rent for upwards of p40,000 so a 3 bedroom would no doubt be much higher and the more upgrades the unit has, the more it will cost to rent. Winland also offered rent to own from what I have been told and 30% down with possibly 5 years to pay on a purchase of a new 3 bedroom, but again all things are in flux in Cebu and one day it can be one way and another day it will be different and it will depend on whether things are selling or slow.Angelo cell 09212 739 620 and then the Sales office country code is 63 and then 032 for Cebu or if in Cebu just 255 2636 and he is not always in the office so best to text him on his cell to make arrangements to meet with him. Hope that helps.
siamesecat64 Posted June 8, 2010 Author Posted June 8, 2010 Once again, Mr. Lee, thank you to give me some of your time and valuable knowledge. While in Cebu, I will contact your friend for sure; Angelo... is he Filipino? Because this name sounds Italian and I am Italian. Anyway, if you are living already in the condo I am targetting, maybe we could have a chat about accomodations etc. in fronf of a drink...Thank You,siamesecat64P.S. Actually I am not into 5 stars hotels, I will check it out your advise about Maxwell Hotel. The Midtown Hotel was mentioned from someone else in some of my previous reading about Philippines and Cebu. Right now my choice is oriented at Aysha-Lily Guest House, any comment on it? The Midtown Hotel was mentioned from someone else in some of my previous reading about Philippines and Cebu. Right now my choice is oriented at Aysha-Lily Guest House, any comment on it? The Aysha-Lily Guest House is on Mango (the worst part of town IMO) and near Osmena Circle, so my opinion of the area is unless you wish to be a sex tourist or want to find girly boys then stay away from that area, and should any of that be your goal then please do not state so on this forum because we hope to keep this a family type forum and what people do of that nature is their business and IMO not for this type of forum. And please do not be insulted by what I just stated. Angelo is Filipino and a wonderful young man, and many of the names of Filipinos come from the time when the Philippines was controlled by Spain and of course Italian and Spanish cultures seem to have a many similarities. As for having a drink and some chat, we would be happy to meet up with you any time we are there but right now we are in the USA and hope to be back either later this year or very early next year and it will depend on quite a few things that are going on in our life right now that may prevent us from going home to Cebu until they get cleared up. siamesecat64 Posted June 9, 2010 Author Posted June 9, 2010 Hello Everyone.@ Mr. Lee I am not offended at all, I am not that touchy. As I said, I know very little about the Philippines (and almost nothing about Cebu) and I was thinking that there will be only a couple of places with that kind of activities (where the US bases where located, like Angeles City, Olongapo-Subic and of course somewhere in Manila, Ermita?). This is a surprising piece of news. So that Guest House is in the RED LIGHTS DISTRICT of Cebu? WOW!Hummm, I just checked out the web and picked up the places that seemed to be nice, almost central located and not that expensive. Thank You very much for the information, I will check it out the extensive list provided from brock. It is Ok; If finally, I will be able to relocate (to the Philippines) we will have plenty of time to meet. Yes, at least, that is something that I know: 400 years of Spanish colonization + 50 of American... Yes, I agree, Italian and Spanish culture have many points in common.@ brock Thank you so much for the extensive list you gave to me; after Mr. Lee revelation it is more than wellcome/useful.@ Boss Man Thank You, you too for give me your time. I will check it out too, am I correct, Montebello is a nice place but outside the city?Because I have my plan; I will need to stay in the city, looking for Supermarket & Delicatessen shop location, Condominiums with Appartments for rent, Entertainment activities such as Gymnasium, Tennis / Squash Courts, Swimming pools, Bowlings, Cinemas, etc., Italian / Japanese / Thai Restaurants and (evenctually, but not for the first couple of years) Business Opportunities. Thanks again to everybody,siamesecat64

Swimming pool possibly at Club Ultima on the circle and at many of the hotels as well as at Winland Towers. Winland also has a gym but it has been in disrepair at times as many things in the Philippines seem to get put off until tomorrow to get fixed. Here is an Interactive map of Cebu City that you can move around and find things which might help you.Montebello is a very nice Italian Villa style hotel with 2 swimming pools and right behind the Country Mall and while it is not right in the heart of the city, it is conveniently located and my wife and I had stayed there a number of times in the past before buying our condo and found it very nice. So you will have many choice once you touch the ground and look around. Possibly stay at one place for a week or so and then move on to others until you find what you seek. I am sure we will meet up when we get back. :thumbs-up-smile:
Jollygoodfellow Posted June 10, 2010 Posted June 10, 2010 @ Boss Man Thank You, you too for give me your time. I will check it out too, am I correct, Montebello is a nice place but outside the city? As Lee said its not right in the heart of the city but its in the city of Cebu,3min walk to country mall and bowling, cinemas, restaurants, everything you would find any where else. Its not really far from the Winland towers. The point is if you are looking for a nice place to stay while you scout around I think you will be happy at the Montebello. My last stay there was 4 weeks in an apartelle room, you can see some pictures in the gallery.http://philippines-expats.com/index.php?app=gallery&module=user&user=1&do=view_album&album=61Or here, http://philippines-expats.com/index.php?showtopic=4305Oh, Lee is almost correct, its a Spanish Inspired hotel but I guess Italian could be similar.:thumbs-up-smile:
siamesecat64 Posted June 10, 2010 Author Posted June 10, 2010 (edited) Hello,@ Mr. Lee"The Aysha-Lily Guest House is on Mango (the worst part of town IMO) and near Osmena Circle" Actually I can not find Mango Avenue in Google Earth, but because they said them-self they are located in Mango Ave. and according with the map provided in they web site, I guess that is an informal name given to General Maxilom Avenue. I wonder why?@ Boss ManI checked out both your suggested accomodations including your pictures of the "appartelle". For my taste, I would prefer to stay at The Waterfront Hotel, Deluxe room seems to be nice at 110 USD per night and they have both Italian and Japanese restaurants that are among my favorite cuisines.
