SOURCE: http://ph.news.yahoo.com/gma/20081121/tph-...ec-d6cd5cf.htmlMANILA, Philippines - In attempt to verify reports of erring taxi drivers at the airport, the head of the Land Transportation Office (LTO) on Friday posed as a passenger and made several discoveries along the way. GMA's Flash Report said that in one of the taxi that LTO chief Alberto Suansing boarded at the Terminal 3 of the Ninoy Aquino International Airport, he noticed the driver not wearing a uniform and the vehicle's interior was in disarray. In another cab ride, Suansing said the manner that the driver maneuvered the vehicle made him dizzy, prompting the LTO chief to reprimand the driver.Suansing also discovered one driver who even talked a group of passengers into paying a fixed amount for their trip. When the LTO head approached the driver, the latter reportedly said he only did so because he knew he would lose out in the end because the group was composed of five passengers, more than the usual load of a taxi. The driver was apprehended even as the operator of the taxi had already been summoned to the LTO office to discuss the sanctions that they could face, the television report added. The LTO launched such "surprise inspections" under the agency's "Oplan Isnabero Program," to check reports of complaining commuters that taxi drivers had either been refusing passengers or urging them to pay a fixed fare.Suansing said that with Christmas drawing near, his office had been receiving at least 100 passenger complaints of erring taxi drivers a day. - Mark Merue
