SOURCE: http://ph.news.yahoo.com/gma/20081121/tph-...mi-d6cd5cf.htmlMANILA, Philippines - The Bureau of Customs on Friday said it seized a forty-foot container loaded with P2.5 million worth of assorted fabrics, undeclared Korean wine and other foodstuff. Bureau of Customs X-Ray Inspection Project (BOC-XIP) chief, Lourder Mangaoang said the seized shipment from Busan, South Korea on board the vessel Merkur Cloud. The customs official said the shipment in the bill of lading was described to be containing fabrics, but when it was subjected ton X-Ray inspection it was found to containing assortment of other items other than fabrics. The container van on inspection yielded Korean rice wine and red ginseng, facial moistures and therapy kit, perfume, bedsheets, temporary tattoos, toy decors, women's clothes and denim jeans.Other items found in the van were bags and fishing accessories, high velocity P/V valve, tank with motor and valve, stainless steel drains, strainers, electric motors and ovens, blenders and two crates of grinding machines.Mangaoang said the importer only paid P84,040 for its shipment of 'fabric' with a declared value of US$6,600. However, following a re-computation by XIP, the shipment actual value was placed at over P2.5 million. The report said given its high actual value, re-computed duties amount to P280,250 while the VAT payment was at P270,676.In his report to the BOC-XIP, Customs Field Officer Renato Palgan said the was consigned with shipment Jandee World Merchandise based in Marikina City and was brokered by C.G. Perez Customs Broker in Quezon City. Palgan said the items were declared as fabrics and foodstuff when they consignee and the broker presented photocopies of the import entry, bill of lading and commercial invoice to the X-ray unit prior to inspection. But when an alert order was issued on the said shipment, the field officer found only fabric was declared in the original copy of the import entry and its commercial invoice at the possession of the customs examiner."It appeared that the consignee deliberately falsified the Xerox copy of the entry and the commercial invoice they had submitted to the XIP field unit to cover up the false declaration," the report said. - GMANews.TV
