ekimswish Posted August 12, 2010 Posted August 12, 2010 (edited) Part of the problem, too, is poor, religious, women often want to have children because it makes them feel like they're doing their pious duty. On top of that, it "employs" them in the sense that they have purpose in their life and children to be proud of and work for. I think what the better-off Asian countries have found out, as well as the West a long time ago, is when you give women better education and work opportunities they're less likely to have more than their fair share of kids. So a girl with a realistic chance of studying and going to college and becoming a lawyer one day is less likely to get knocked up since she's focused on other goals. Failure to plan is planning to fail. This is true even in the West, as high school girls from low income areas are way more likely to get knocked up and have the baby. High school girls in well-off areas might get knocked up, even in the Philippines, but they can afford the abortion.
