Mr Lee Posted October 28, 2010 Posted October 28, 2010 Many moons ago, a rant was started on another forum about the terms people call the Philippines and how some are disrespectful etc. I guess some people have nothing better to do than start rants, but since this forum is different, I am only pointing this out because I thought you all might want another politically correct short term to use when referring to the Philippines (PHL) and a news story to back up your abbreviation in case anyone challenges you on it. The Department of Foreign Affairs (DFA) and its foreign diplomatic posts began using the initials PH or PHL when referring to the Philippines, and not anymore “RP,” an acronym for the Republic of the Philippines, in compliance with the country codes set by the International Organization for Standardization (ISO).The complete story HERE
Art2ro Posted October 28, 2010 Posted October 28, 2010 Good info Lee! Oh well, so since PI or RP doesn't conform to the ISO coding format, then PH or PHL it will be then! But maybe then, most mail won't get lost anymore in the Philippines via now, aka PH or PHL! Yeah, right! Anyway, I haven't used their local mail system in years, except for DHL, FedEx and Air Cargo 21.
Tom in Texas Posted October 28, 2010 Posted October 28, 2010 ... politically correct short term... referring to the Philippines (PHL) [as per] The Department of Foreign Affairs (DFA).. Thanks Lee... I sometimes use RP and sometimes PI... and always wondered if either was really "correct."I'll take the lazy and now properly sanctioned two letter code --- PH.Tom in Texas (aka Tom in TX)
