these are links to the NSO website so that you can access more info on them and what they do.

This is what the fees are when you need services from NSO directly

what is the NSO? listed below is a brief of what they do

The National Statistics Office (NSO) is the major statistical agency responsible in collecting, compiling, classifying, producing, publishing, and disseminating general-purpose statistics as provided for in Commonwealth Act (CA) No. 591.

NSO has also the responsibility of carrying out and administering the provisions of the Civil Registry Law as provided for in Act No. 3753 dated February 1931.

Just a reminder, if you need to go to the NSO and get copies of your documents, make sure you get EXTRA ones,

as some places when you submit paperwork. will keep the NSO original . so extra copies are a must

Instead of going to NSO we went to the Cebu City Health for our Cenomars for our marriage, no crowds and only took minutes but maybe we just picked a good day. We still have to pick them up yet when we get around to it....

The previous post about using the local registrar is a useful reminder. The actual birth record will typically originate from the local registrar. As the source, it may be useful to just get a copy from them, if a local official copy will suffice. The NSO copy is essentially a copy of the local one on security paper.

Be prepared for complications. If the original local registrar document is a poor copy, then the NSO one will be a poor copy also, only on security paper. I can relate at least three different incidents within my own extended family where documents were in need of correction. Wrong birthday, sex, spelling of name and the list goes on. It may not be an issue for you, but be aware.

The NSO has no claim to being the only ones to do this. A Pinay spouse I know got a USA visa while living in Korea. The visa was correct in every way save one. Her nationality own the visa was Korean. Whoops.

I have had a great experience NSO recently. I sent an email to their online address and expected no response. Just trying. I got a response within a couple of hours, on a Sunday night! Amazingly courteous and helpful.

As to the cost of the documents, it is pretty common these days for the government to outsource computerized records. This ends up in contracts for very large sums to companies that charge a fee for each transaction. The fee can be substantial when compared to the actual costs. This fee is to cover the upfront expenses of the contractor with a margin for profit. Or whatever!

We discovered that my own mother in law had no record in the NSO. She got a temporary document which she could use for the Phil health. But, in order to get an official NSO birth record, she would have to file a "late registration of birth". Gee, I wonder if anyone can recall the name of the attending midwife in 1941????
