Mike S Posted October 3, 2008 Author Posted October 3, 2008 Chi ....... I checked yesterday and was told 5:00pm ...... . funny think all the changers seem to be on the same wave length right now ...... except the ones in the malls ...... must be the rapid rise and fall of the peso ....... for the last 3 days all the above mentioned changers were with in 3 centavos of each other ....... and not giving the published rate as on Yahoo Money ...... yesterday I got 46.85 per $ 1000 when the going rate was 47.06 ...... and before some one jumps in and says that the 47.06 is commercial rate ... not so it is higher ...... 47.18 if I remember correctly ..... gears Posted November 21, 2009 Posted November 21, 2009 Money changers can be a hit and miss situation as far as best deals ..... also be aware that prices change through out the day most change at 9:00am ..... 1:00pm and 4:00pm ....... some keep up with it hourly ...... it pays to call these people before you go .....MS money changers ....... 255-89-92 ......... Robinson's in the basement at the CircleAlcon ....... 254-96-08 .......... Raintree Mall near JollibeeSLB ......... 254-49-48 ......... past Mercury Drugs at the Circle .. look for a stairway that goes up a few stepsDrop By ..... 516-32-20 ........ Rustans in BanawaThese above give the best prices ...... the mall prices are much lower as they have to pay more for overhead ....... I have seen for instance where the changers in Ayala are as much as 10p lower than the above mention ....... If you use your bank as I can mine .... they will call a money changer to meet you there to exchange at the bank (bank rates suck as well) ........ but remember you will pay a few peso for this service ....... if I plan on cashing in a lot I will sometimes use the bank as it is more secure .....Hi Mike or anyone else who might be kind enough to chime in.. I am a new member to this great forum. I am landing in the http://www.mactan-cebuairport.com.ph/ near midnight on Nov 28th and am wondering if there is an open and manned money exchange counter within easy access inside this airport? The web site shows nothing in that regard ? I have both USA currency and AMEX Travelors cheques plus Canadian cash I would like to get rid of and of course a couple of Debit cards , but have no pesos at this time for a cab etc. Would you know if the eschange rates are relatively competitive to downtown Cebu options? Also any idea what a metered cab costs to get to uptown Cebu at that hour..? Am booked to stay at the Diplomat already. Thanks for any timely responses from anyone.Gears

As far as I know there are no money changers in that airport but the Diplomat hotel has one in their lobby and I am pretty sure it should be open at that time. You might want to call them to make sure. As for what it will cost you from the airport to the Diplomat, p200 should be the max on a meter but at that time of night it will probably cost you about p160 on th meter. Traffic would increase the cost as would different routes. I made a post on how to save money at the airport and if you are not in a rush and do not have a lot of luggage then you could walk down to the left end and go upstairs and catch a taxi from the waiting area or one dropping someone off who is running late for a flight. I believe the counter at Mactan will charge you p300 for a taxi so even that is not too bad since it is only a little over $6 US.As for travelers checks, if you can cash them where you are coming from then that would be best because there is only one place in Cebu City that cashes those that I know of and they beat you up on the exchange rate and also charge you a fee to cash them. US $100 bills will always get you the best exchange rate and at the places listed on this forum.Good luck and enjoy Cebu. Check your cards are Plus or Cirrus with the visa or mastercard logo. Also a good idea to tell your bank you will be using the cards overseas.Cant recall seeing money changes at the airport.
