Mr Lee Posted March 12, 2011 Posted March 12, 2011 how mutch money do you need to live the good life in cebu? just to live simple That is really an impossible question to answer because we are all different and therefore have different needs and tastes, and then on top of that Cebu includes city and provinces, so if you wish to live in the city then I would say US $1500 or more at todays exchange rate, but there are guys here living out in the provinces without aircon or going out to restaurants and seem to get by on less than US $500. My wife and I own our own condo free and clear, and we live in the city, and some would probably say that we live a fairly extravagant lifestyle because we eat out all the time, yet we live in s simple condo when compared to many that would be much more expensive and have much higher monthly costs and yearly taxes, and we used to live on $1000 a month not counting the purchase of our condo but this year I am finding that we seem to be spending closer to $1500, so read THIS topic and you will find answers all over the place due to lifestyles. Simple to one included lots of beer and no aircon and simple to another includes just eating rice and native foods, so possibly clarify and possibly members could come closer to the mark for you. Forum Support Old55 Posted March 12, 2011 Forum Support Posted March 12, 2011 how mutch money do you need to live the good life in cebu? just to live simpleWe each have our own needs and standard of living Pazz but I would agree with Lee, roughly figure $1,500.00 average to live a good but simple life there.A few things to keep in mind are to always have a clear exit plan and the cash to implement it along with ready cash for unexpected emergency's this is critical. If you have a Filipina to guide your spending you may get by somewhat cheaper. But on the other hand if you chose one who sees you as an ATM machine your costs could be very high. Jim Sibbick Posted March 13, 2011 Posted March 13, 2011 how mutch money do you need to live the good life in cebu? just to live simpleTo live the life I want in Cebu City, it is P60,000 per month. On that amount of money, I can live permanently at the Cebu Century Hotel, eat out for every meal. have a massage every day, socialise with friends every day, entertain the ladies and travel occasionially to other islands. I can do the same lifestyle for less if I watch my spending. In December I spent 3 weeks in Cebu City and only spent P35,000 in total, including accommodation. I still had a good time!As has previously been stated, you can live a lot cheaper outside Cebu City without the city distractions. On Leyte, I prefer the lifestyle I can achieve on about usd $800 per month but I can get by on as little as usd $350 per month. For a USD $350 lifestyle, here are some actual monthly expenses to considerInternet - Land line with DSL internet at 256 speed is P1000 per month. Although, you can get faster speeds at an internet cafe and only pay P900 per month for 2 hours use every day.Acceptable accommodation - from about P2500 per month. That is what I pay for a small 2 bedroom apartment. 10 minutes walk from the sea and 25 minutes walk to a decent beach. I have an American friend nearby who pays P5000 per month for a 3 storey, 3 bedroom, 3 bathroom apartment.Electricity - P1500 - for cooling by fan only and running all the usual electrical gadgetsGas - P500 for cookingCell phone - I end up paying up to P1000 for texting and ringing back home to Australia.Cable TV - P400 for 34 channels which is all they have available. It includes several movie channels and BBC so I am happyBase living costs = P7000 or usd $170 on today's exchange rate.Food and entertainment will be up to you! My friend in his 3 bedroom apartment says most months his living expenses are about P20,000.I have another american friend. I can't remember the deal now. Either he has usd $800 per month pension and spends usd $200 per month on medicines or he has usd $600 per month pension and spends usd $200 per month on medicine. Either way, what ever the balance. He says he lives happy with his wife and wants for nothing! By the way, both of these Americans are married and have 13a visas which allow them to live permanently in the Philippines without the need for extension fees.
