Popular Post Ashanti Posted April 10, 2012 Popular Post Posted April 10, 2012 (edited) When you give a child a bag of cookies or sweets and tell them only to eat 1. usually they will not. I beg to disagree…………. She is NOT a child – she is a young adult! And why should I do all the trouble of sending the funds in piecemeal so she will not be tempted????????? When is she going to learn RESPONSIBILITY if I spoon feed her??????? If I have to get up so early in the morning to work rain or shine and often do overtime to earn the crust I sent her, the least she could do, is to be a responsible adult. Ive done my share, I expect her to pull her weight instead of being juvenile. If needs must, one must! That’s why most extended families take the mickey because they think they can get away with it without taking any responsibility. It is also a test of ones morals/attitude. Kind of if you see an unattended jar of sweets, do you just help yourself without asking permission???????? In my time, my mother entrusted me with monies for my brothers and sisters tuition fees as well as the utility bills. She done it to make me responsible aside from the fact that she wanted the monies, especially the tuition fees set aside and safe from being used for something else. I could have easily enjoyed myself at the expense of my siblings schooling but I did not! And it was not only because I was scared of my mother but because if I will be silly with the monies, my siblings wont be able to go to college full stop. It’s a clear cut choice. No use running back to mother saying sorry, as there are no spare monies – that’s it! If I had managed it on my day, I cannot see any reason why my niece wont be able to do it especially it is her future that is at stake. Shed chosen the irresponsible way – so its up to her head. In those days, there was no telephone/online banking. I have to go physically to the filipino bank by train and back on an extended lunch break which I have to make up at the end of the day just to be able to send my niece the money. And even if it was easy to send money to PI, I will still do same by sending lumpsum rather than piecemeal. She has to learn responsibility on the double!!!
