Mr Lee Posted April 16, 2011 Posted April 16, 2011 I found this info interesting, so it seems a lot of people can immigrate to Canada, if a family member is a Canadian citizen. People who immigrate to Canada always have the desire to bring their entire family to live with them. Not only do they want to be together but they also want the rest of the family to enjoy life in this country.Canadian citizens and permanent residents who are 18 years or older can sponsor certain relatives. Parents, grandparents, unmarried brothers or sisters, nephews or nieces, granddaughters or grandsons who are orphaned and under the age of 18 can be sponsored. When you sponsor a relative you need to meet certain income requirements because you are expected to support them upon their arrival. You may be denied to sponsor another person if the one who previously sponsored seeks financial assistance from the government. Even after the sponsored relative becomes a permanent resident, you are still responsible for them for a period ranging from 3 to 10 years depending on the relations. For instance, you are held responsible for 3 years for your spouse, 10 years for a dependent child who is under 22 years of age or until he reaches the age of 25 and 10 years for parents or grandparents.Interesting story HERE
Dave Hounddriver Posted April 16, 2011 Posted April 16, 2011 (edited) In theory it is a great idea. In practice: With the recent changes, it now takes a minimum of 5 years for applications to be processed an application filed today may take 10 to 13 years to process.
