Call me bubba Posted May 11, 2011 Posted May 11, 2011 (edited) Two Swedes jailed for life over Philippine cybersex den Two Swedish men, arrested in 2009, have been jailed for life for running a cybersex operation in the Philippines. A court in the southern Philippines found Bo Stefan Sederholm, 31, and Emil Andreas Solemo, 35, guilty of trafficking charges. The life sentences are unprecedented both for their severity and for the spotlight they cast on cybersex dens. These involve naked women chatting and performing sexual acts in front of webcams for internet clients. Three Filipinos were given 20-year jail sentences for helping the Swedes, who had set up the internet and payment systems, to run the business. Regional court clerk Nelison Salcedo was quoted by AFP as saying judge Jeoffre Acebido had stressed the need to protect women. "Disrespect for Filipino women and violations of our laws deserve the strongest condemnations from this court," Ms Salcedo quoted from the judge's ruling. "It will not shirk from its duty to impose the most severe of penalties against anybody, be he a foreign national or a citizen of this country, who tramples upon the dignity of a woman by taking advantage of her vulnerability." Under-age fears The Swedes were arrested when police raided a commercial building in the town of Kauswagan, Mindanao, in April 2009. Police found 17 naked Filipinas in front of computer screens, some of them under-age; they were described as having been forced into performing cybersex. Ms Salcedo was quoted as saying that the women were paid 15,000 pesos ($350) a month. "Once the client has paid for a private show, anything goes," she said. The Swedish embassy in Bangkok, which oversees the Swedish consulate in Manila, confirmed the court ruling. "We learned that they have been convicted and sentenced to life in prison," said senior consular officer Par Kageby. Cybersex, or sexually explicit chat over the internet, is a growing industry in many parts of the world; business is booming is the Philippines. The BBC's Manila correspondent, Kate McGeown, says an already established sex trade, high levels of poverty and a population that speaks at least basic English means there is a ready supply of girls. Officials estimate that thousands could be working in the small apartments that are the usual locations of these so-called cybersex dens. All internet sex is classed as pornography and therefore illegal in the Philippines, but what most concerns the authorities is the number of girls who are trafficked into these dens - many of whom are well under 18, the legal age of consent.................................................................................................................................................................................................http://www.bbc.co.uk...acific-13356721.......................................................................http://www.thelocal.se/33706/20110511/the other link is from the sweden online news, basically same info....................................................................................................................... Mr Lee Posted May 11, 2011 Posted May 11, 2011 Let this be a warning to all who wish to use and abuse the locals, for their own financial gain. We cannot expect equal treatment under the law, the 3 Filipinos got 20 year sentences and the foreigners got life and since both foreigners appear to be young, the Filipinos will be out long before the foreigners die, unless they die from the harsh treatment they will no doubt receive while in jail. joeatmanila Posted May 11, 2011 Posted May 11, 2011 Outrageous!!!!What the heck is human trafficking has to do with it? They were just playing by their self in front of a camera and getting paid for it. The underage lolipop is to cover up and justify the life sentence. They were not forced to do it by violence or any other means of black mailing etcThey were adults and knew what they are doingThe country is full of prostitutes and related establishments everywhere, so what if they were naked online...hypocrites!!!!If no foreigners included i doubt it would make it to any court. What to say after that, just keep out of situations as such.... This sent to me by Ed may address that issue Swedes ran brothel there is usually more to a story than the news prints. Two Swedish men in their thirties have been arrested in the Philippines on charges of human trafficking. The accused, who are alleged to have forced women to perform sexual acts in front of a web camera, face possible lifetime prison sentences, writes Expressen. Dave Hounddriver Posted May 11, 2011 Posted May 11, 2011 (edited) Police found 17 naked Filipinas in front of computer screens, some of them under-age; they were described as having been forced into performing cybersex. First let me say that I have no problem with the arrest, trial and sentence of the Swedes. Don't do the crime if you can't stand the time. BUT, the quoted bit brings to mind another story that men should be aware of. At a party last month, a friend of mine was getting extremely amorous with a girl who was probably 19ish and it was obvious that she was very much into it and enjoying the heavy petting. However, in the heat of it all she looked up and saw her boyfriend staring at them. What a fast change! Suddenly she is slapping and biting and fighting and saying "Let me go! Don't do that! etc. She stopped short of screaming rape but came close enough to have people concerned. All because she had been caught and wanted to say and do anything possible so as not to own up to her guilt. Be warned. About the poll. I did not vote as I believe it matters not what I think. What matters is do I know that the Philippines justice system just might jail me for life if they catch me, a foreigner, breaking their laws. My vote then would be that I know, I understand, and I accept, PROVIDED I am guilty and as I know I would not do it then I have no worries. Forum Support Old55 Posted May 11, 2011 Forum Support Posted May 11, 2011 I have zero sympathy for those two morons. The fairness or justice of the sentence is not up for debate they chose to do what they did in the Philippines and now will be held accountable. Two or three years ago maybe they could have made some payments to the victims and the victims families paid a big fine and then be expelled from the country. Today the Philippines are attempting to get off the UN trafficking list in order to get more “development” moneys so any Foreigners caught doing anything remotely involving that kind of activity without working directly with local crocodiles are taking a HUGE risk. Frankly I would like to see all that kind of trash done away with.

It may be that these women chose to work, but the question is what other choices did they have? If any of them were under age, then these two got what was coming to them. The question is, when will this government deal with corruption to the same degree? If they want to "get more development money" then first they will need to deal with the level of corruption first.Carl
ekimswish Posted May 11, 2011 Posted May 11, 2011 Normally I'd say it's their fault for committing a crime in someone else's country. Here, however, I gotta say I disagree. Playing with yourself on a webcam is pretty goddamn safe compared to every other form of prostitution that exists in this country. What a bunch of animals in the justice system. How many of them caught an STD from this particular job? This is just too ridiculous. I could accept twenty years. Life is a disgrace.

Why is that, should we not be allowed to express our opinion? I thought that's what forums are about. Are you sure you know all the facts based upon a couple of newspaper articles? I don't know all the facts either, and I don't condone it for a minute, but a life sentence seems outrageously harsh.
