Art2ro Posted May 14, 2011 Posted May 14, 2011 The post title is bashing of the Filipino society again and insinuating that all Filipinos as being ignorant people! Granted this topic is about the Philippines, but the comments and title are controversial! I don't think the Filipino people needs a history lessen from a 9 min You Tube video clip after all the years of martial law under the dictatorship of Ferdinand Marcos, because the Filipino people all lived and experienced it, where as the forefingers were just onlookers, opinionated and doing nothing about it especially the United States who supported the Marcos regime for 20 years condoning human rights violations which have been enough just cause for the U.S. to intervene, but they didn't and it's the same example as to what is going on in Libiya today, but the U.S. today is so broke financially that their hands are tied behind their backs and can't commit to help the Libyan people all the way! So, the human rights violations continues on everyday while the U.S. are just onlookers and can't get involved due to the lack of money! So, who else are the ignorant ones past and present? ekimswish Posted May 14, 2011 Posted May 14, 2011 I ain't gonna argue with anyone over this. I really don't know enough. I don't doubt for a second that Marcos' regime did horrible things. However, not a single person I've ever asked in the Philippines has told me they prefer life after Marcos to life with Marcos. I'm sure they're everywhere, but the people I've asked (mostly taxi drivers) have all said: "MARCOS! We had money then!" For what it's worth. ekimswish Posted May 14, 2011 Posted May 14, 2011 The post title is bashing of the Filipino society again and insinuating that all Filipinos as being ignorant people! I agree.... I didn't want to read the post or watch the video, afraid of what it was. It's an interesting video though, so maybe if the title of the thread is changed, it'll be a little more attractive to check out.

All I know is the people that the Marcos Regime killed senselessly can't speak for themselves, people who survived are still shell shocked or depressed indefinitely and the majority after the down fall of the Marcos Regime all went back to their honest way of living and others went back to their scamming ways to earn a fast buck from the booming tourist trade, car hijackings, robberies, kid napping, drug and human trafficking! Jim Sibbick Posted May 14, 2011 Posted May 14, 2011 Most Filipinos were poor before Marcos, they were poor during the Marcos era and are still poor now.I couldn't see the point of the video unless it was made to discredit the current president, Ninoy's son, during the presidential election. There was no new information for me in the video. There seemed to be no Filipino ignorance. Except about "People Power". So people power won because Marcos decided not to attack. Who is to say what would have happened with millions of people in the streets if Marcos did order the attack. Regards; Jim

Regards; Jim Wow this one is a good one, however it is definitely Political so I should not comment...., however as so many of you have already commented without being banned! I will not comment on one side or the other, I will not choose which family is better or worse, I will simply say.Whether it is Marcos, Ninoy, his mother or father, the Spanish, the Americans, The Japanese, or Chinese or any one else, so long as the majority of wealth in this country is controlled by a small number of families, and the majority of the population lives on under 2 dollars a day, the Philippines will never live up to it's potential. What happened to "The Pearl of the Orient"? Every prediction made about the Philippines from all the industrial countries of the world in the late 40's and early 50's said that this was going to be the power house of Asia! So many natural resouces, high population, that were educated and could understand and speak English! Potential of manufacturing was high etc etc etc. and look what happened. Japan rebuilt from the ashes, Korea rebuilt from the ashes, Singapore, Malaysia all were way behind the Philippines just 50 years ago! When you have a gov. who concentrates on providingFirst world EducationFirst world TransportationFirst world MedicalFirst world CommunicationsPays above expectations for essentials people, like Police, Fire, Ambulance and Army etc. give them good pensions and health benefits, they are less likely to rely on bribes and corruption to supplement their income. It is true, the Philippines has all it needs to be the greatest nation in Asia, ...., it's natural resources...., it's people. Unfortunately whether under Martial Law, or People Power, it has only been a small handful of families who have benefited, the vast majority are still living on gov land in squatter camps. Education is declining, health care is only for the rich, transportation is owned and operated by mainly foreigners, etc etc etc.So why am I here.... the people! One day lets hope they all get to speak with equal voices and attain their goals, they deserve it! They have been under the control of foreigners either directly or indirectly for far too long.Love this place and it's peopleKuya Carl
ekimswish Posted May 15, 2011 Posted May 15, 2011 I believe the Confucian values of East Asia helped them with a crazy amount of emphasis put on education (crazy good). While the Philippines only has 10 grades in school, the rest of East Asia (not South East Asia) leads the world in Math and Science.... hence, the future.
