roy2cebu Posted May 23, 2011 Posted May 23, 2011 I think because it is predominately a Catholic country, it's a phrase that is ingrained at an early age and doesn't really mean much to anyone other than it sounds 'good'.
Jollygoodfellow Posted May 23, 2011 Posted May 23, 2011 Thanks everyone. Hello Max,I understand your concern about personal backgrounds in your pursuit in finding the "right" one. Although I have never tried internet dating before, one could assume it's no easy task filtering out the bad apples among thousands of good ones. I guessthe boots on the ground will be the final exam in canvassing your applicants. It would certainly be a valid question to ask heror them what and how deep is their religious conviction. And they also have the right to ask about your background as well.Needless the say, I wouldn't latch on to the very first one, just because your Ferrari went into sex overdrive. Just take a nicelooong cruise and enjoy all the "hills and valleys". The subject of religion could be discussed much later.Respectfully -- Jake The religion thing is just that I'm a very analytical person and as I became a no-religion guy (but deeply spiritual and believe in Karma) I just wonder if I'm going to face a cultural barrier with people who possibly have been 'brainwashed' by kind of Middle-Age beliefs which have no scientific ground if you know what I mean. My opinion is you have to remember that the Philippines is the largest Catholic nation of the world I read somewhere and even if its not then your idea of brainwashing wont be theirs. You will find religion every where from the crosses and rosary beads in the taxi to the prayers that stop everyone in their tracks at the supermarket everyday of the week. It makes no difference if your opinion is that of brainwashing as you may have been brainwashed by a different source, look at the doomsdayer's and believers of a non event. They believed it as true so to them it was or should have been. You will offend most Filipinos if you try to discredit their beliefs and this is true for any religion or race so if you think you will find a girl to fit your ideas in the Philippines then maybe you are looking in the wrong country. As for the section in your original post that was removed,it will stay that way as there is no point trying to prove or change anyones thinking as it will not work. Fast&Furious Posted May 23, 2011 Author Posted May 23, 2011 . . . people who possibly have been 'brainwashed' by kind of Middle-Age beliefs which have no scientific ground if you know what I mean.Enough already. Those of us with spiritual beliefs are not allowed to preach them to you on this site. That means you are not allowed to get get in you snide remarks that you are holier than they, but in a 'scientific' way.Dave,I did not mean to offend anyone, if you believe what you believe, that's fine, I respect that. But how am I supposed to ask a question if I can't even describe what I mean? I don't want to offend anyone, that's why I'm asking it here, so I can learn it before I am there. You need to give me a chance to learn, right? You can delete this whole thread if you believe I offended anyone, thanks.

Dave Hounddriver Posted May 23, 2011 Posted May 23, 2011 Yes I think it's better if you delete the whole thread, I may have used improper terms, so I apologize.I disagree. The thread is valuable when we stick to the point of what filipinas mean when they ask for a God Fearing mate. Unfortunately it is like trying to walk a tightrope to discuss it without falling into the river of religious controversy. With only a few slips you have managed to have the question asked and answered. (That is my way of saying no hard feelings, its a tough topic but needs to be discussed.) Mr Lee Posted May 23, 2011 Posted May 23, 2011 Religion here is everywhere, and even most of the taxi drivers will rub their rosary beads and pray as they go by the many churches here, and then still proceed to take the long way around the streets so they can make more money off their passengers, that is if they think you do not know any better. As said before by another member, I believe the daily prayer in supermarkets happens everyday and maybe a couple of times a day, where all things stop for that prayer, and in the malls such as Ayala, they will even have a mass on Sundays. Then there is the religious radio stations that many of the taxi drivers and some stores have on all the time and that may upset some who have become anti religion. So as they say, when in Rome one has to do as the Romans do, so when in the Philippines, one has to at the very least tolerate what the locals here do, otherwise we will find that we are very unhappy living here. Roll with the punches or get knocked out. Sorry, the thread will not be deleted, it does serve an important purpose IMHO.

Let me try to explainAs you live in Australia you will know that there is no point trying to convince a Ford driver to like a Holden or change their views.Lee removed part of your first post which was basically that, the part left or the question about god fearing is a question that can be answered and has been.Later you went on further to add the words brainwashed or scientific facts so then it changes the original topic again to perhaps personal views of your own which wont fit well with many people on this subject, again as an example, you would not go into a pub that many patrons support one team of football and announce that team and its supporters are all wrong and brainwashed. So as we do allow religion topics if they are related to the Philippines; there is still a fine line to not offend anyone or to word a post in such away that it is not pushing one's own views and beliefs onto others.Anyway there really is no debate or more to add to this topic unless someone has a different idea of what god fearing means or why some Filipina's use that term. I understand...but since I was born 5 KMs from the Vatican, I know that if I used the same words in Rome, no one of my generation would be offended as the facts are public knowledge. Italians have increasingly rejected strong commitments to religion. I had a Catholic priest as teacher till I was about 13 as part of my education. Then in recent years, Italian students no longer are forced to have that as society is changing, the world is changing.I had no idea that there were prayers inside supermarkets in the Philippines!!!Don't you see that there is a strong link between poverty and strong religion beliefs in any country of the world? On the other side, people of countries that are more developed have become less and less interested in any religion. So, maybe, considering I'm one of the youngest here, just accept my apologies for my wording (please delete at least quoted references to those words I used that still appear in other's members posts).Thank you

Who among us has not said "Help me get through the _________" day, week, year, job, illness or whatever it was that was troubling us at the time. Who were we talking to when we said it, ourselves? Maybe? So many of the people pray for a better life, pray for a good partner to make their life better, pray for a friend or family member who is sick, and just overall pray for many things they hope to have or fix here and in life. IMHO that will not change in the near future, if ever, because it seems many of the things they wish for fall on deaf ears of the govt. Now at the same time, those who have achieved most of the things that they want in life might tend to pray less, so that should not surprise anyone IMHO. It is quite possible that after you find a good woman, and marry her, and make her life, and that of her families much easier, that she too will have less to pray and ask for, but if you see her praying all the time, then maybe you are doing something wrong in your relationship.
