Interesting quote from the story, so the answer seems obvious, and some of it could be conquered with the RH Bill and education. Also they left out the thing which IMO is the main cause, family pressure to get out to support the rest of the family. Among the main causes of human trafficking in the Philippines are poverty, low economic development in communities of origin, gender inequalities, limited employment opportunities, existence of and access to public infrastructure (roads, schools, health centers, etc), large family sizes, inadequate awareness among families, and sex tourism. The complete story HERE

Having just watched a program on the TV about the thousands of "non status people" now living in "no mans land" in Sabah, who are the children of illegal immigrants from the Phlippines, the parents or parent have gone home to the Philippines but left their children behind, this story does not surprise me. The Malaysian authorities are having to deal with whole communities of people with "no status", they have no papers, they are neither Malaysian, nor Filipino! and there is nothing they can do about these people. They can not deport them, as they don't come from anywhere else. They were born in Malaysia, but from "illegals" therefore have no status.Sabah is the poorest province in Malaysia and job opportunities are few and far between. Only jobs as "fruit pickers" etc are primarily available, unless in the sex industry.
