It seems Cebu is no longer going to be a place for girly bars, so I wonder is this going to be good or bad for Cebu? I am sure it will make a lot of married expats happy, but what about the single ones, will they move on? I wonder how many might move off Cebu if this happens? CEBU CITY -- Mayor Michael Rama revoked the permit and ordered the closure of Jaguar KTV Bar on St. Michael Street in Barangay Kasambagan. He issued the closure order in keeping with Section 11 of City Ordinance 2163, which cancels the business permits and licenses of establishments involved in trafficking. The order came seven weeks after the Regional Intelligence Division Central Visayas, Regional Anti-Trafficking Force, Inter-Agency Council Against Trafficking and the Department of Justice raided the bar and rescued 146 girls. The complete story HERE

Rescued!!!! Get real, its not a bad thing cleaning up the City, just keep the bars to one or two area's and let the better area's get cleaner (for want of a better word) its the second place in the same area to come under the hammer and in my opinion a good move. The girls will of course be rescued again soon by another bar here or there, so the unemployed will soon be back working I am sure!

One bar closed for hiring underage girls is not what I call an end to girly bars in Cebu. Maybe a wake up call for any others that do this but as one closes another opens so I dont see what the hype is about.I am sure the majority operate within the law so business as usual.

When a country is that poor, you will NEVER stop prostitution. Actually, it happens in ALL countries...never ever going to stop it. Remember Governor Elliot Spitzer? Well, for those who don't know, he was the governor of my home state, New York. In 2007, he signed this ant trafficking anti prostitution bill...the toughest in the country. Well, then he was caught with a 22 year old hooker. Now he has a show on CNNSimple...prostitutes are all over the world trying to make some money off of people with money. In the Philippines, it is no different. If they close the bars down, all these girls will be free lancing at discos all night, instead of closing time.

Is it possible the mayor shut down Jaguar because it was the highest priced girly bar and, in keeping with Cebu's fine reputation, they did not want the tourists to be gouged? Or maybe it was too expensive for the mayor's purse? Its not like the girly bars are hiding in the ghettos. They are in plain sight in the heart of the city, for the most part. So if they want to shut them down, they could walk from bar to bar and close all the doors to all the downtown ones in 20 minutes, and yet, they have not done so. Hmmm.
