Forum Support Old55 Posted June 7, 2011 Forum Support Posted June 7, 2011 (edited) [ Hey guys,"For the 2010 fiscal year, the president's base budget of the Department of spending on "overseas contingency operations" brings the sum to $663.8 billion" -- a quote from http://en.wikipedia....e_United_States. If you read further down, Dept of Defense will be asking $700,000,000,000 plus for fiscal year 2012. Fortunately, there is a plan to withdraw troops from Iraq within the next few months but it's my believe that there will be another world crisis to content with.I strongly support formal Philippine president Ramos not to be confrontational with China and other nations claiming the oil rich fields of Spratly island group. I also believe that China, specifically their navy has no capabilities to support a major beach invasion of Philippines. Besides, Asian (especially China) and world economies would go back to the dark ages if someone makes that fatal mistake. It is my ultimate dream that someone (preferably western) would invent a consumer grade fuel cell that would eliminate our dependency of fossil fuel forever. Mother Nature simply cannot support current population growth with limited oil reserves, its polluted by-products and governments willing to go to war over a barrel of oil. What's next -- going to warfor potable water?Respectfully -- JakePS -- by the way, welcome back TRAVIS! :th_need_vac: I agree with you Jake, the fact is China has no way to directly project military power any distance overseas. They will occupy the Spartlys when they want to. Who will stop them? The UN will not do anything but make noise and beg for money. The US has little to gain by playing around there. The PAF couldn’t take on a Boy Scout Troop. The Chinese do have a fairly large air force but of very limited capabilities, the PLA is NOT and offensive force its propose is to keep the rulers in power. IMO China is not really Communist but a police state the only thing they truly fear are the Chinese people. The fact is the US and most of the “free” world is now at war with China. If you think not you are not paying attention. Economic and cyber warfare is taking place every day. Travis!? Cool to see you posting again….welcome back! Forum Support Old55 Posted June 7, 2011 Forum Support Posted June 7, 2011 The last thing the Chinese ruling elite want is a “hot” war or other external issue that would limit trade thus growth. The US is a huge importer of Chinese products they would not lightly risk loss of that trade. The one real threat to the PLA and Chinese rulers are the Chinese people. They know the economic growth and many commodities needed too keep the people happy is not sustainable. The one thing we can know is those rulers are very intelligent, cunning, savvy and ruthless. Maybe the real issue facing Philippines and the world is how will the collapse of North Korea (the first most likely to fall) and internal issues or total collapse of China?
