Jollygoodfellow Posted June 29, 2011 Posted June 29, 2011 There at it again, rescuing people who dont want to be rescued for the sake of making it look good. What are they going to do, raid the other thousand bars. PHILIPPINE POLICE NAB AUSTRALIAN IN RED-LIGHT RAIDMANILA, June 29, 2011 (AFP) - - An Australian man could be jailed for life in the Philippines on human trafficking charges following raids on a notorious red-light district in which 100 women were rescued, police said Wednesday.Three bars in the northern city of Angeles that were known to be fronts for prostitution were raided on Tuesday night, according to a statement from national police headquarters in Manila.A number of other foreigners were also arrested after they were found having sex with some of the women and would face less severe charges than human trafficking, the statement said. The manager of the Sunshine Bar, Australian Terrence James Smith, was detained, while about 100 female sex workers were rescued from the three establishments, the statement said.Police said Smith would be charged with human trafficking, which carries a maximum prison term of life. One police officer involved in the raid who asked not to be named told AFP the other foreigners who were picked up were two Americans and a Japanese. Two Swedish men accused of running a cyber-sex den and charged with human trafficking were last month jailed for life in the southern Philippines.Angeles has long had a reputation as a giant red-light district, initially for American soldiers when the city hosted Clark Air Base, which the United States handed back to the Philippine government in 1992.Filipino authorities continued to turn a blind eye to prostitution in Angeles after the US forces left, with one section of the city devoted to strip bars and hotels catering to foreign men.Tuesday's raids were linked to a US decision on Monday to remove the Philippines from a watchlist of countries deemed not doing enough to combat human trafficking, police criminal investigation chief Samuel Pagdilao said."Pagdilao said that the successive raids in Angeles City's red light district last night affirms the recent pronouncement made by the United States Secretary of State Hillary Clinton," the police statement said.str-cgm/kma/pst
tom_shor Posted June 29, 2011 Posted June 29, 2011 Notice they only raid places frequented by foreigners. It's a dog and pony show. I bet no one asked the girls there if they wanted to be "resuced".
Mr Lee Posted June 29, 2011 Posted June 29, 2011 It is my opinion that they are only going to continue to raid girlybars owned and operated by foreigners, so while this has happened before, it will most likely continue to happen to those foreigner owner bars, unless they know and pay off the right people, which will not leave much left for their investment, so maybe best not to be in one of those businesses in the Philippines, or face the real possibility of life in prison or not making much money for the investment required. Not for me for sure I gave up my dream of being a pimp long ago when I saw how bad I looked in a fuzzy hat. :th_thholysheep: The bars on the lower end of Fields owned primarily by rich Filipinos don't seem to get raided much. Call me bubba Posted June 29, 2011 Posted June 29, 2011 (edited) http://australianetw...ry.htm?id=41628I have to ask ,did these "workers" have the required "health"permits? mayors ? work? etc to be employed.are they over 18yo? Guess they are since the articledidnt say ""minors.children ,minor sexually exploited, lola come from province looking for "missing/kidnapped/enslaved" daughter ""then if they did have this paper work, then is the "party" who issued them be just as guilty? or the bar owner just didn't pay his "taxes" Correctly? (example i was in the car when .my friend robbed the bank, therefore I too am guilty or chargeable for "robbery"?) we both was thinking of the same story guess next time I would need to make my "headers" more clear, :th_thholysheep: Edited June 29, 2011 by ed villas

You have it all wrong about how to make money off your investment. What you do is get other foreigner's to invest in your bar. Then you take the money and run. Classic scam has been going on for years. I remember back in the 80's bar owners suckering guys into "Investing" in bar schemes. The bar trade there in Philippines is a very gray area. Illegal and somewhat legal depending on the authorities mood at the time. The odds of getting mixed up in that type of business is just way to risky in my opinion. Politics and the legal system are a very bad mix. Especially when you are on the loosing side.Just saw this Inquirer article so I will edit to this post. http://newsinfo.inquirer.net/19358/100-women-rescued-from-angeles-city-night-clubsMANILA, Philippines—At least 100 female sex workers, some of whom had “V” tags, indicating they were still virgins, were rescued, and five foreigners were arrested in successive raids on three night clubs in Angeles City on Tuesday night, the police said Wednesday. The Criminal Investigation and Detection Group (CIDG) said joint police antihuman trafficking operatives rescued the women from the Sunshine Bar, the Blue Nile and the Golden Nile night clubs along Fields Avenue in Barangay Balibago. “The women don’t really consider it a rescue. They kept cursing us and tried their best to escape,” said CIDG Women and Children’s Protection Desk (WCPD) head Supt. Emma Libunao, who led the raids. She said the women were mostly from Mindanao who were promised jobs as factory workers, waitresses, or sales ladies. Upon arriving in the city, “they would wait tables at first, then before long, they would start entertaining guests at the table,” Libunao said. She said she assumed that some of the rescued women were below 18. “They were taught to say they’re 18.” ‘V’ for virgin Undercover agents posing as customers were even offered the sexual services of girls with the “V” label. “They called it ‘cherry popping.’ They’d say, ‘I’m a virgin so I’m more expensive.’” One of the girls said she was only 16 and asked for P100,000, Libunao said. The raids on the Blue Nile and Golden Nile, two night clubs reportedly owned by an Irish fugitive Richard Douglas Agnew along Fields Avenue in Angeles City stemmed from the complaint of the Crusade Against Good Customs and Decency International, a nongovernment organization based in the city that fights sex tourism. Agnew was not present during the raid, but he would be charged with violations of the Anti-Trafficking of Persons Act, Libunao said. The raid of Sunshine Bar resulted in the rescue of 17 sex workers and the arrest of the manager, Terrence James Smith, an Australian national. Police said Smith would be charged with human trafficking, which carries a maximum prison term of life. Libunao said the others arrested included three Americans and a Japanese. One of the Americans was later released. With a report from AFP Edited June 29, 2011 by FlyAway
Jollygoodfellow Posted June 30, 2011 Author Posted June 30, 2011 I can see a massive pull out of bars in Angeles, resulting in high unemployment and tourism of any sort to the Philippines coming to an end. Not just the bars closing but the hotels, restaurants and all that goes with it.Investment by foreigners will end too as the Philippines cuts it own throat every day.The comment from the women says it all“The women don’t really consider it a rescue. They kept cursing us and tried their best to escape,” said CIDG Women and Children’s Protection Desk (WCPD) head Supt. Emma Libunao, who led the raids. When you think about it,how can you be rescued but had to try your best to escape,it must be the CIDG who are the bad guys!
Garpo Posted June 30, 2011 Posted June 30, 2011 Lets get to the true bottom of this! It is not the Philippine Government who is behind all of this, read the news folks. It is pressure from the US and the threat of cutting US aid to the Philippines and most of that aid goes right into the pockets of many of the Government officials that are putting these people in jail and setting these poor sex slaves free, lol. Looks the the media reports in the US about sex trade traffic and it will always include the Philippines. The sad thing is that it is true that many of the perverts in the US and other countries come to the Philippines for the purpose of getting their rocks off with very young victims of which they would be put into prison for back home. These government officials are getting a whole lot more money for the US aid than they are form the bribe money involved in the girly bars. It is the US government that needs to threaten to cut off aid because of coruption in the goverment, not because the Philippines have bars that have grown men buying sex with agreeing women. Prostitution is the oldest profession known. You might be able to keep it quiet but you will never stop it.

Not just the bars closing but the hotels, restaurants and all that goes with it.Investment by foreigners will end too as the Philippines cuts it own throat every day. This is already happening and bound to get a whole lot worse ! Nobody will want to invest in a business, and no one will even want to travel to a place that treats people this way ! I feel very sorry for the girls, and other employees, whose families depend on their income ! I am also very very glad, that at least some of them managed to escape, making the cops look like bumbling "keystone Cops" once again !Lets get to the true bottom of this! It is high time the US cut off ALL overseas Aid and concentrated on it's problems at home ! It would not be so bad if the money they donate, actually went into the projects they are meant too, but in nine times out of ten, they may as well just have just chucked the money out the window ! It never ever, reaches the ones that really need it !
FlyAway Posted June 30, 2011 Posted June 30, 2011 Since many mention US foreign aid, here is a nice pdf document worth a look. I would call it a somewhat good source.http://www.state.gov...tion/122513.pdf
