roy2cebu Posted July 14, 2011 Posted July 14, 2011 Recently, have heard on the radio, there have been a number of fires in the area...mainly in squatter areas. Last night there were 2 around Cebu city. A news reporter was on location at one and was told by an unfortunate resident that people had come from outside the community to offer help...ie, help removing personal belongings....but then fled with the property!Sad. ekimswish Posted July 14, 2011 Posted July 14, 2011 perhaps its a new form of URBAN RENEWAL. cleaning out the "slums" to offer these people a better way of life outside the city,I'm probably wrong here on every point, but it's been my feeling since first setting foot in Manila that'd they'd do well to evacuate the city, blow it up, and start over. Not just that, but I tell my province friends that I'd rather be poor and hungry where they are than poor and hungry in the city. I guess I just don't understand, and if I were a poor and hungry Filipino in the province, I might try out the city myself. But from where I stand, with all its comforts, I'd rather be poor and hungry surrounded by banana trees, friends, and family, than in some Manila slum.
