I just read something pretty funny. if it was not for the young women there being open to old farts like us then there would be hardly any tourists going to the Philippines in the first place http://www.philstar.com/Article.aspx?articleId=707820&publicationSubCategoryId=200#commentsMANILA (Xinhua) – President Benigno Aquino III said on Tuesday that his administration is working hard in order for the country to be a top tourist destination."Under our administration the tourism sector is finally getting the attention it rightfully deserves. At the bottom line is a better life for the Filipino people. Tourism means jobs, as every person visiting this country means more opportunities," the President said in a speech delivered at the 6th Ambassadors and Consuls General and Tourism Directors'Tour. The Chief Executive cited the Puerto Princesa Underground River in the western Philippine province of Palawan as one of the must- see tourist spots. The Underground River is one of the major contenders in the search for the New Seven Wonders of Nature.Aquino said infrastructure projects are also underway to enhance the capabilities of the country's aviation facilities that will make traveling easier for the visitors. He said the tourism department has targeted 77 tourism development areas across the country adding that the success of such efforts depends on infrastructure developments that will serve as the foundations of progress."We have taken steps to liberalize aviation as well, which will effectively allow our tourists' access to friendlier airfares and to more plane rides to our tourist destinations. We are making it easier and less tiring for them to reach their destinations," the President said.He also noted the increase of tourists in the country saying that the numbers will continue to rise with the continuing efforts being exerted by the administration."We have 3.2 million visitors in the period of July 2009 to June 2010, and the most recent reports bare that the visitors count within the same period during this administration has risen to more than 3.7 million," the President said.

Yo Travis..... Cebu City IS NOT A TOURIST DESTINATION!!!!! If you spent all your time in big cities trying to live the cheap life I doubt you have ANY IDEA what tourism in the Philippines is about OR what a tourist LOOKS LIKE! People my age, traveling around the world backpacking, or working abroad for a year LOVE GOING TO THE PHILIPPINES and never set foot in the bars you're thinking of. The Philippines DOES NOT revolve around fat, old, white men who have given up on fat, old, white women! The fact that so many fat, old, white men go to the Philippines is "almost" a compliment, since there are a million countries on earth poor enough to host such guests, but the women in their countries are deemed unattractive or otherwise lacking.... I've been a tourist in the Philippines, as have most of my friends, and we all loved it. You were NEVER a tourist. Try it, and then comment on it.

The young women being interested in old farts as you put it, is just one aspect since I have seen many younger families walking around the malls in the Philippines and there are many from other Asian countries who visit the Philippines, so improving things to encourage more tourists (other than sex tourists, sorry but I am anti sex tourist, and that is just my opinion) is a good thing IMO, so I hope the Philippines follows through with it. I would like to see the economy of the Philippines depend more on tourism rather than OFW.

Right on Mike!!You're the only kano that I know of that resides in a newly built nipa hut out in the boonies. You have probably seen more of my homeland than the average Filipino, myself included. Backpacking, camping out, rafting, scuba diving, sailing or just watching the most beautiful tropical sunset from a white sand cove, surrounded by cool aqua blue waters are some of the adventurous highlights. And just think, you have 6,999 other islands to explore and rejuvenate your spirit.Well done my friend -- Jake
